Autumn Budget 2017

This was a Budget announced in the shadow of Brexit and problems with Universal Credit, but the Chancellor wants businesses to be able to “plan with confidence” – so inevitably it was ‘steady away’. However, there were some significant announcements made to provide a little help to families and businesses under pressure:

  • The Chancellor said he would “keep taxes low” and there are few changes in the short term
  • Relief from Stamp Duty Land Tax for first-time buyers was the main headline – which will be very welcome for some people
  • But there may be changes in the future for people providing services through their own limited company. The consultation will take place in 2018.
